By Samuel Johnson

Book Overview

The Idler V2 is a collection of essays written by Samuel Johnson, a prominent literary figure of the 18th century. The book is a continuation of the first volume of The Idler, which was published in 1758. The essays in this volume were originally published in a weekly newspaper called The Universal Chronicle between 1759 and 1760. The essays cover a wide range of topics, including politics, society, religion, literature, and philosophy. Johnson's writing is characterized by his wit, humor, and insightful observations about the world around him. He offers commentary on the social and political issues of his time, such as the role of women in society and the corruption of government officials. In addition to his commentary on contemporary issues, Johnson also reflects on broader philosophical questions, such as the nature of happiness and the purpose of life. He draws on his extensive knowledge of literature and history to support his arguments and to provide examples that illustrate his points. Overall, The Idler V2 is a thought-provoking and entertaining collection of essays that offers a glimpse into the mind of one of the greatest writers of the 18th century. Johnson's writing is both timeless and relevant, and his insights continue to resonate with readers today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
