Pirate and Somaplasty Specialist Gettion Solarise finds himself lost and destitute when kicked out of the illegally operating esthetics company he helped found. He struggles to reestablish himself commercially and navigate trade that is becoming increasingly "legit". Cut off from both his clientele and access to the Dark Corridor, he becomes too despondent to properly design anything, until he encounters the alien Niikka, sent to the Sphairan Territories as part of a clandestine invasion from the other side of the Corridor. As they are caught up in a storm of interplanetary espionage and nanotech-based conflict, Gettion shows Niikka that fashion is as much fun as War, and Niikka attempts to teach Gettion that politics can be bypassed by eating rivals. Along with Gettion's best friend Ulianni, they test and validate their strengths and abilities-all the while becoming more fantastic than ever.
The Identity Matrix follows on the story arcs of both Kintsugi and Dark Corridor, both of which are summarised in the front of the book.
"With a cast of complex and compelling characters, The Identity Matrix delivers both pulse-pounding action and a deep and important message about controlling your own destiny and defining your own identity. A great addition to Rahn's oeuvre and a must read for SF fans."
