I am mother of two who works full-time. Other than the twenty minutes before I drop off, I rarely get to read. With this book, my twenty minutes turned into an hour. I plowed through the book in a few days. It was a wonderful, uplifting, fast read. Now, if only we could get a sequel, in which Ansley finds true love in NYC.

Yummy for the head and the tummy!

Just bought a copy of "The Icing on the Cupcake" because I heard the cupcake recipes had a lot of great baking secrets, but I ended up reading it all the way through over a few days because it's such an easy entertaining read! I really enjoyed the theme of women re-inventing themselves from dark places in their life, and how it's never too late for generations of women within one family to come back from the wounds of the past and heal together. The recipes are simple yet inventive and I've made the Three-Alarm Chocolate cupcakes already. They came out perfectly!

Being a Southern Belle requires more than just beauty and charm. It is a way of life for the rich and privileged women living south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Just ask Ansley Waller. As queen of her sorority at Baylor University, her main goals in life include marriage, children, and charity balls. Isn't that what every young woman dreams of? So imagine the shame when her devoted fiancée decides to call it quits, leaving Ansley unattached and socially disgraced! With nowhere else to turn, she chooses to escape to New York City. With her tail between her legs, she moves in with her grandmother Vivian, whom she has never met and whom her mother Hattie utterly despises, in hopes of starting anew. Arriving in the Big Apple turns out to be a drastic change of scenery for this Dallas socialite. Hoping to nurse her wounds, she seeks comfort in the arms of her grandmother. Unfortunately, Vivian has other plans in mind for her darling granddaughter, requiring her to find employment in eight weeks or simply move out. As Ansley hits the pavement in search of a master plan, she enlists the help of a new friend named Dot to help orchestrate her next move. With her options dwindling and time running out, Ansley comes up with the bright idea to combine her love of baking with her new passion for life. Will her ambitious scheme be a recipe for disaster? Or, will Ansley finally get to savor the sweet flavor of success? THE ICING ON THE CUPCAKE is a delicious debut novel by the talented writer and pastry aficionado Jennifer Ross. With each chapter, she shares scrumptious recipes for flavorful cupcakes with such hilarious names as Black Bottom Heartache and The Devil Made Me Do It and I Liked It. With a rich storyline and sweet romantic undertones, THE ICING ON THE CUPCAKE is a delectable treat.

"The Icing on the Cupcake"

Just bought "The Icing on the Cupcake" by Jennifer Ross and read it in two nights as I couldn't put it down because I can relate to the idea of starting over and I love to bake--the recipes in this book are awesome. This novel tells the story of a young woman's decision to evolve from the goal of being a sorority girl getting her Mrs. to a young woman starting her own bakery. As a huge baker myself, I'm eager to try to the recipes in this "Like Water for Chocolate" story gone NYC with some women's lib in the mix. Good read, highly recommend it, especially for the beach.

A MUST read for Women's Fiction and Chick Lit Lovers

Jennifer Ross's new novel, "The Icing on the Cupcake," effortlessly combines women's fiction, juicy chick lit, and stellar baking recipes. Ross draws you in with both three-dimensional characters and engaging plot lines, wrapping up each chapter with a cupcake recipe made-to-order. You both love and loathe her main character Ansley, a sheltered sorority girl from Texas whose life aspiration (while in college) is to marry well. You end up rooting for Ansley and cheering her on as she rebuilds and recreates herself in the big city. A sweet story and easy to read - I couldn't put this book down! And now I can't wait to try some of the delectable recipes from the book, especially the red velvet creation aptly dubbed 'Shot Through the Heart." Great weekend read or beach read! Can't wait to see what Ross does next!
