I enjoyed The I of the Beholder very much. I have had the privelage to study under Dr. Vicchio. Perhaps this makes my judgement biased. I truly doubt it. This book is a collection of essays that can bring tears to the hardest heart and bring the humanity in all of us to rage against what is inhuman in our world. I didn't know what to expect when I bought this book. I got much more than I paid for. The I of The Beholder is a window into one man's soul. The window becomes a mirror; forcing you to look deeper into yourself. Another reason I loved this book is that it is a collection of essays on a variety of topics. It is the perfect read on a rainy day or when you can't allow yourself the luxury of picking up a book and finishing it. If I had to select a few treasured essays they would be, in the following order: 1)When the Holocaust is denied. 2)A Teacher's Talisman and 3)Father's Day Times Two. Stephen Vicchio's vast knowledge of history, relegion, philosophy and politics are synthesized into an easy to read and understand work. You will come to realize that you have very strong opinions on things you don't often discuss. If you embrace a work for what it will bring out in you then you MUSN'T let this one go by.
