For centuries, the tarot has fascinated human beings, as a divinatory tool, as great works of art, as a path to deeper understanding of ourselves and our place in the universe. Starting in 2024, author Derek Hunter has begun an ambitious project, of telling a story based on each individual tarot card, wherein the lead character represents the meaning behind the card. 30 short stories for 30 tarot cards (following a similar structure to one of the oldest decks in existence, the 15th century Mantenga Tarocchi, possibly conceived by Nicholas of Cusa, which has five sets of ten cards representing five aspects to existence). The first 10 books in The Human Drama will take place in modern day Los Angeles, the following 10 will take place in the future, and the remaining 10 will take place in the past, focusing on both famous and obscure people from history.

Part Zero - The Fool, the beginning of the journey, follows Frank Francine Fontaine, a homeless hermaphrodite individual, through the streets of Los Angeles as she/he/they try to get from Echo Park to the Pacific Ocean to find their/his/her mother.
