Would you be willing to trade the horrors of this world for those of another? Are you suspicious of mainstream academia's incessant, nagging, and at times even desperate pleas for scholars to cease their research into a particular county of Wales? One which can no longer be found in atlases nor upon maps? If so, then this series of frantically penned letters are addressed directly to you, noble sir or madam My name is Edwin Crawford, and I feel it quite significant to implore you that nothing I may have done in my life priorly warranted this unpleasant stay at Harrington Hill. At least as far as I can tell. For I was never one to engage in unsavoury activities. A padfoot, pickpocket, or highwayman I was not Furthermore, I had no outstanding feuds nor debts before finding myself suddenly transported to this dreadful locale. You see, owing entirely to my wealthy aunt who had married into aristocracy, I had been sent to board at Cambridge University. A two-day ride from my mother's home in Thetford of Norfolk in England. There at Cambridge for the past three years I had been studying classical history and literature, although at times found myself drifting away from the proscribed studies and the curriculum thereof to instead gravitate towards my own avenues of...preferred research. What particular avenues, you may ask? Well, these lines of inquiry I can only define as the pursuit of the mysterious and queer. I was particularly drawn to unusual topics which other students often found uninteresting. Bizarre events that remained unexplained throughout history expressly drew my attention, however my scope was not limited simply to documented occurrences of oddity. No, not at all. But rather, I utilised my knowledge and understanding of these anomalous instances to further interpret aspects of biology, physics and medicine which my counterparts at the university cared, or mayhap dared, not to acknowledge. Many of my legitimate findings, my compatriots and superiors downright ignored. Sleep eludes me. I know in my heart that I shall never rest until I have recorded an accurate rendition of this living nightmare in which I have found myself unfortunately entangled. The following events, listed in chronological order, describes real, non-fictional incidences. All of which I have most regrettably experienced first-hand. It is, however, very fortunate that I am versed in the Welsh tongue, for otherwise I would surely be dead, were it not for the aid of certain...acquaintances I have made during my time here at Harrington Hill. For the reader's convenience I have translated any and all Welsh spoken in the proceeding recount to English.
