Very good yet lacks candid discussion in some areas

Overall, this is a great treat for the modern generation which has lost so much conservative thinking towards the most important and the first established institution in the world, the family. This was written in the yesteryears; but the writing is quite relevant for all generations. The authors stresses the importance of many biblical issues which have lost it's importance in many churches , even evangelical ones, lately. He stresses a lot on the husband-wife relationship, and what is their biblical roles, and clearly points out that any violation of it will not have God's blessing and will end in disaster. Any feminist will run away from this author!! More than half of the book will be more appropriate for families with kids; but the single person or the newly married person can also glean lot of useful edifying teaching from the chapters. The chapter on birth control is quite conservative. Even many modern christians may shy away from that teaching, even thought the world has operated that way without birthcontrol for 6000 years or so. The author justifies his argument well from scriptures and logic. But he does that mostly the perspective of living in usa. He did not give any reasoning behind what is going on in the third world countries. Also sadly, he has not mentioned anything about adoption, which is a major theme of the scriptures.Another area where I think the author did little mistake is commenting on bethrothal- the way Issac got to know Rebakkah in the Bible; or so called arranged marraige. It called it silly. that was sad. He should have read the genesis account, and how the scriptures endorse it. In that sense, he gave in to the cultural weakness of dating a little more, although he is more conservative than the society in general. The parent-child relationship is covered well and conservatively.Overall, this book is a great gift for the modern day young people. Also it is recommendable to be gifted to young people thinking about dating/marriage etc.

Sound, biblical counsel on courtship and marriage

The advice presented in this book is somewhat dated, but it's GOOD advice. It goes against American culture and the way we typically view dating, marriage, and raising children. It has been revolutionary for me, as a single man, in terms of how I view relationships and marriage. To be honest, it has caused me to completely change my views on godly dating. I recommend it especially for single men and women.
