This is one of the best and funniest bits of "made up" folklore I've ever read. Seems this little kid goat was raised on a bottle after his mother died. The children dressed him up with ribbons and wildflowers and took him to the local Catholic church to be blessed. The priest sprinkled him with holy water, and that little goat came home and announced to the other goats that he had been ordained. There follow all his adventures preaching and leading his "flock" into and out of all kinds of trouble. Most books like this are funny for a couple chapters; then the author runs out of ideas. This one is funny all the way through, and having raised goats for some years, I can "witness" that the stories in The Holy Goat are true to the nature of goats. You don't have to be familiar with goats to enjoy this book, but reading it is not a bad introduction to the subject.
