The History of Costume

Did you know that in the film Gladiator - Oscar winner for special effects - there are many figurine's errors? Praetorian Guards wearing black capes and tunics are more like Star Wars characters than 2nd century A.D. Romans, who would never wear black clothes in their uniform, a color considered unlucky, reserved only for mourning. Errors like that are more frequent than you imagine in movies, books and magazines, so I decided to create this book with an updated reference material for artists, illustrators, customs and fashion consultants, or just curious who, like me, are interested in the past. There are magnificent works published on this subject in many countries, all of them are infinitely more documented and professional than this book, however I have seen that most of the authors leave aside Latin America and its different historical cultures, which are mentioned superficially, to give prominence - as is logical - to their respective countries. That's why I've worried about studying the clothing of our continent, Latin America and Brazil, in the same way as the rest of the world. The illustrations are of my authorship, with few exceptions; I elaborated simple figures, almost like caricatures, with the only objective of highlighting their clothes, jewels, weapons and other details. I hope this book can fulfill its purpose: to be useful to the reader.
