Invaluble reference

As I continue to develop my racing website (the North American Motorsports Pages), I am relying on Brown's book to help in the identification of tracks, both defunct and still active. Many of the entries are very short, but then, he is covering ca. 8000 tracks in about 800 pages. I'm amazed that he's collected as much information as he has; much information has been list (particularly for racing before WWII).

The History of American Speedways Past & Present

Fantastic Reference Book. It is a great place to start if you are an auto racing reference geek! (which I am).

A must for oval track, dirt track, and race enthusiasts.

The author has spent much of his life researching and visiting little known and well known race tracks in the US and Canada. Information goes back to the early part of the century. Some local tracks in Michigan are long gone with one track now converted to harness racing, which is Northville Downs. It would be nice if it was still a dirt track for midgets and jalopies, but with the upscale snoots living here, it would probably be history and converted to another upscale shopping mall. The author solicits information from any readers who may have knowledge of tracks long gone, and he periodically updates his book. Obviously, the book is for auto race enthusiasts who enjoy discussing nostalgia of cars and car racing. Interesting information is presented on old wooden race tracks. The book has lots of photos and information on local drivers and some who have earned big name reputations. The 20 bucks is well worth the enjoyment of just browsing through the book, let alone reading about your local tracks before you were just a dream in your parents minds.
