The enthralling sequel to Best Served Cold from the New York Times bestselling author of Red Country and The Blade Itself."The battles are vivid and visceral, the action brutal, the pace headlong, and Abercrombie piles the betrayals, reversals, and plot twists one atop another to keep us guessing how it will all come out." --George R.R. Martin, author of Game of Thrones, on Best Served Cold They say Black Dow's killed more men than winter, and clawed his way to the throne of the North up a hill of skulls. The King of the Union, ever a jealous neighbor, is not about to stand smiling by while he claws his way any higher. The orders have been given and the armies are toiling through the northern mud. Thousands of men are converging on a forgotten ring of stones, on a worthless hill, in an unimportant valley, and they've brought a lot of sharpened metal with them: The Heroes. For glory, for victory, for staying alive. "Abercrombie never glosses over a moment of the madness, passion, and horror of war, nor the tribulations that turn ordinary people into the titular heroes." --Publishers Weekly (starred review)"Lord of the Rings as directed by Kurosawa." --Wall Street Journal"Magnificent, richly entertaining." --Time Read the World of the First Law trilogy: Best Served Cold The Heroes Red Country
I had my doubts about a book of this size taking place over just 3 days but they were quickly squashed. The dialogue and the action in The Heroes makes Abercrombie the reigning king of GrimDark and Fantasy. Its a masterpiece.
