The Heart of Penfield Bay

By Cindy Koch-Krol

Daniel, in an amateur tarot reading, is told that he would meet the love of his life and would not be able to take his eyes off of her. But he should beware, because she is a woman with secrets. Fourteen years later she walks into his life. Consumed with guilt, Clare is grieving for her parents and grandparents who all died in the same car accident. Overwhelmed by the responsibility of being her disabled brother's guardian, she flees to the small town of Penfield Bay, where she meets an unusual young man who stares at her incessantly. But Clare's Uncle Stephen desperately needs her help. She is the key to keeping their family business solvent and to fulfill his dream to create an energy self-sufficient town. He entices her to come back to Chicago, temporarily, and take up the position of power her father had been grooming her for. She won't leave Penfield Bay because this town has a Heart. Not only have the inhabitants captured her heart, but the landscape itself has a heart. The Heart is the magical place that the residents of Penfield Bay are protecting. The power struggle between the local factory and her family's business has the potential to destroy the very Heart of Penfield Bay.
