What a wonderful book!

I wasn't too familiar with this author's other work, so I didn't really know what to expect when I started this book. What a wonderful surprise! Scott Philip Stewart weaves together a heartwarming (and sometimes heartbreaking) story filled with characters with whom you can relate...and empathize. Everyone knows couples who have tried every imaginable way to conceive a child - IVF, etc. - and the exhiliration associated with finally having one. This book draws you in with just such a couple, living in unfortunate circumstances, and keeps you pulling for them through a series of twists and turns. You have a front row seat as you witness the power of love, hate, raw bigotry, redemption, and high-minded idealism. Ryne will tug at your heartstrings, and you'll think about him long after you put this book down.

Affirmation of the human spirit

This book spoke to a part of me that dwells deeply within the heart. Far too often books with the central theme of personal faith provide simplistic "Walton Family" solutions to life's greatest challenges. The characters found in the pages of this book are forced to confront some of the most difficult struggles humans face: loss of life and self-doubt. Their struggles are cloaked with the peace that only a faith in higher being can provide. Ryne's story is told with humor tinged in pathos for life isn't fair nor will it ever be, but through the grace of God and his love (agape) healing is a far greater miracle than curing the uncurable. The healing is not only for Ryne but for those whose paths crossed his and the reader.

Sensitive and intelligent

From reading the other reviews, it looks like everyone takes something different away from this book. I was most fascinated by the preacher who struggles with his own demons, and in a wrenching crisis of faith, bucks the system/returns to the true mission of his ministry. The characters are warm (the ones who are intended to be, anyway!) and all are beautifully drawn. I never would have guessed the potential importance of something so simple as a color TV! (Read the book to find out why.) I was especially moved and thrilled by Sister Stryker's star turn. I can't wait to read this author's next book!

It will make you laugh, cry and all the emotions in between!

This is one of most beautifully written books I have ever read. The descriptions, scenery and beautifully written words of this author actually put you in the book! The story is one of bravery, love and faith. A truly one of a kind, moving novel. This book is for everyone and should be read by all ages. Thank you for this gift.

This Book Is A Treasure!

The Healing of Ryne O'Casey: What a wonderful story of faith, love, hope, anger, prejudice and tolerance. This tale is about a small boy and his family who are facing a devastating illness, AIDS! The author has made his characters so real, so human and loveable that you really feel you know them personally. Some you love, some you hate and others you just feel a little sorry for. You will laugh, cry and get mad, but in the end you will understand how out of the worst parent's nightmare, the possible loss of a child, a whole town comes together, and along with Ryne O'Casey, a precious little boy is finally healed. This book is a must for everyone who loves to read! I hated to see it end
