The HBI Files: Prelude to War

By: Slattery, Ray

Discover the Hidden Stories of History with the HBI
What if you could travel through time-not just as a tourist, but as a guardian of history itself?
Alex Shuefort, a passionate high school history teacher, never imagined his knowledge of the past would become the key to protecting it. But when a mysterious pocket watch falls into his hands, Alex and his brightest students are thrust into an extraordinary journey across centuries. Together, they form the Historical Bureau of Investigation-the HBI-charged with understanding the events that shaped the world and preventing those who seek to exploit history from unraveling time itself.
As the group travels through iconic moments-from the birth of democracy in ancient Athens to the tumult of the Civil War-they must not only observe history, but also grapple with its complexities and contradictions. Along the way, they encounter famous figures like Cleopatra, George Washington, and the minds behind the Enlightenment, while facing dark forces determined to manipulate the past for personal gain.
But not everything is as it seems. A dangerous classmate with a stolen timepiece threatens to fracture the timeline, while a mysterious figure watches their every move. As the HBI learns, it's not just about understanding what happened in history-but why.
Filled with action, intrigue, and rich historical detail, this is a story where the past comes to life, challenging our heroes to confront not only history's greatest moments but also its darkest truths. For Alex and the HBI, the stakes couldn't be higher: preserve the timeline or risk the collapse of everything they know.
Will they uncover the deeper "whys" of history in time to save the future? The answers lie in the past.
