A Change of Scene for Doherty

Paul Doherty is the consummate professional when it comes to writing historical novels. I for one do not know how he can be so prolific with his offering of books and yet make sure that each of them is well researched. Whether they be 13th, 14th, or fifteenth century they are always true to the period. He also writes about Ancient Egypt and Alexander the Great. Paul Doherty has the rare talent of making you feel as though you are there, be it medieval England, or battling with Alexander. The sounds and smells of the period seem to waft from the pages of his books. This book is set in 1866 and brings Paul Doherty much further forward in historical time than the periods he normally writes about. But this does not seem to phase the author at all. He just seems to be able to turn his pen (word processor) to any period in history. A Catholic priest, Father Oliver Grafield is asked if he can perform and exorcism. Strange things have been happening at Candleton Hall and the kindly priest is asked to put the troubled spirit who is supposedly causing all the mayhem to rest.. Within hours of entering the Hall Father Oliver is shocked to the very core by the phenomena he experiences. Pools of blood, a woman who appears dressed from head to toe in black and the Hall itself reeks of a sickening sense of foreboding
