Absolutely incredible book

I would recommend this book to just about anyone. The story deals with topics such as racism, inequality, broken relationships and friendships, etc. in an outstanding way. The characters are well developed as well as all of their side plots. Overall, 10/10 would absolutely recommend to anyone with enough time to sit down and read it

This Book Needs More Attention

This is the book that you read to not only educate yourself on police brutality but the book that you read when you want your eyes open

Amazing book.

I read this for pleasure after my middle school students (8th grade) were reading it in ELA. It was amazing. I felt like I could really identify with her well after a slow start. The first 50 pages before the incident were a drag for me and after that it became a real page turner. A very easy reading level for anyone in high school or above.

Thug

What a great story to teach kids about what's really happening in our world today. I was able to pair this with TKM and our Ferguson MO study in freshman English class.

My opinion

I can relate to Starr in so many ways, like not being "black enough" and acting a certain way when around black and white people. Reading this book made me realize that speaking up or proving your point could change things, you could also speak for the people who are afraid to say something. I used to be one of those people. Not saying anything because I didn't want to be viewed different of come off as a black ratchet girl who thinks everything is about race but I later learned that you shouldn't care about what people think of you. I'm just glad that we have Angie Thomas someone who could speak out about the problems and struggles we have.

Skeptic....read it....loved it!

I didn't know what to expect from this book; I wasn't going to read it. I am so glad I did. I love when books give me things to contemplate and show me a new perspective, and this book did just that. Everyone has a voice, and that voice is your best weapon. You should never be silent about what you believe in, because if you are, how will things change? Never be silent...never forget.

Everyone Should Read This

This is such an amazing, moving novel. Starr is such a relatable character, especially to me because I have had some of the same experiences in my old neighborhoods as she has had in garden heights. Everyone should read this book to be enlightened of what others go through in circumstances like this and just in everyday life. My favorite characters are Maya, Chris and of course Starr.

I already had this novel on my wishlist, so I was happily surprised that it was gifted to me. I finished this novel in a week. I enjoyed reading it. I can definitely relate to Starr when she is perceived as "not black enough" to fit in her own community. My favorite characters would have to be Maya and of course, Starr.

Amazing! Lives up to all the hype!

This book is amazing. It tells the story of a girl in a poor black neighborhood, and I cannot relate to this at all, but, I can't believe how much emotion I felt from this book. I would recommend this book to anyone. Anyone who likes to read. Anyone who can read for that matter.

Amazing story for all adults

I'm in my 30s and loved this book. Angie did a great job of speaking to a broad audience.

A much needed book in the YA World

This would never have been a book I chose on my own. An old English teacher of mine is starting a book club for freshman students and felt she needed a opinion from a fellow high schooler for them, so she asked if I would read it for her. In summary, it’s a reminder of why I don’t read YA. The conversations between two friends seem unnatural and forced and I’m not particularly a fan of the writing. Regardless, it gives kids exposure to REAL things that are happening in the world. I feel that this is especially important for the area I currently live, which is *very* rural Missouri. All in all, this was worth the read. It’s roughly 450 pages, but it’s quick. I finished it completely in three days and felt I read it to its full potential. It sparked crazy emotions in me and truly was a reminder of the horrendous things that are happening all around me.

This book is amazing. I could read it over and over again.
