An alternative to Fourier Transforms

Ronald Bracewell is a well known expert and advocate of harmonic analysis. This sweet little book can be digested in a few days (with a lot of mustard and relish). It's a little over 150 pages divided into 9 chapters and 2 appendices. The chapters cover the integral Hartley transform, its discrete version, the fast algorithm version, 1-D and 2-D applications, and digital filtering by convolution and some other "stuff" that frankly didn't interest me too much. The appendices include an atlas of Hartley transforms, and - best of all - a set of useful computer programs. The programs are written in BASIC but that's almost pseudo-code so you can translate to another computer language without much problem. Unlike the complex number math in Fourier transforms, the Hartley transform is a real number integral transform. Give it a look, but buy the cheaper, used book. (Is it just me or are science/math books becoming too EXPENSIVE)?
