Vernon Night is the CEO of LA's hippest advertising agency. Vernon Night also has issues. His divorce is getting ugly. His Go-To guy is a closet drug addict. He's mad as Hell on a daily basis. His... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I thorougly enjoyed this book. As a fan of religious symbolism in literature and a member of the advertising community, I knew it would strike a chord before I flipped the front cover. It did not disappoint. The idea of God hiring an advertising agency for one, is hilarious. But not so far off when you think about it, and just one of the larger notions Postaer leads you to consider as the story continues. This fast-paced book rapidly culminates in an explosive and highly inventive closing scene that reads like it would play brilliantly on a big screen. I would love to see this book made into a movie. I can see Jeremy Piven playing Vernon Night... embittered after so many years of playing the soul-sucking Ad game, and Oliver Platt as Barry, the affable and brilliant creative in need of salvation. Who plays God? That's a more complicated question. I think you should read the book and figure it out!
Happy Soul Industry -- The Good Book

I believe in both the power of God and the power of advertising. So this book was right up my alley. But let me assure you, you don't have to spend your weeks writing ad copy or your weekends praying in a pew to appreciate this fast-paced and thought-provoking novel. Essentially, it's the timeless tale of good versus evil, set in our modern temptation-filled world. And not to give anything away, but the ending will leave you breathless. It's a must-read and a can't-put-down. I highly recommend.
Morality and spirituality in advertising: cool concept for a book.

A great concept is only interesting if you execute it well. Postaer does both in this light-hearted yet provocative tale. The commentary on the adworld is spot on and funny, while his take on religion gets you really thinking by the end of the book. Forget Madmen, make this into a tv series!
A Heavenly Read....

An engaging, lighthearted read, exploring the dilemma of good vs. evil through the lens of advertising. If you've ever wanted to see what really happens inside an ad agency (and maybe more), this book is for you. Postaer envisions a time when God (a SHE!) seeks an agency of record. Rife with authentic detail from the biz, God sends an angel down to earth in order to......find an ad agency to promote goodness! Characters emerge that humorously echo advertising archetypes, from the account diva to the chief creative officer. Focus groups, new business pitches, gangsters and even Disneyland play their parts in this novel. A contemporary setting for a timeless topic, this book playfully deals with the notion of 'marketing goodness', while candidly pointing out man's struggle with ego, addiction and excess.
Very entertaining read.

Mr. Postaer has written a very entertaining, easy to read book. The book centers around ad agency life while retaining a sense of humor about it all. While the main topic is about God, the book is far from being a "religious" book. This is definitely accessible to everyone no matter your personal beliefs. The final chapter has a very surprising turn of events. Don't cheat yourself though. Read the book starting from the beginning.
