Halloween, or All Saints' Eve, is the day when we are faced with the forces of evil, in which demons, goblins, witches and evil spirits are on the prowl, and this is quite strange if we stop to think about it. November 1st is dedicated to all the saints. Each saint has his own day - that of his martyrdom or some other salient event in his life - but November 1st, All Saints' Day, is dedicated to everyone. An older denomination than All Saints 'Day is All Hallows' Day. Both saint and hallow derive from the same notion of holiness, "holiness", and sanctification, "sanctification", the former from the Teuton language, the latter from Latin.
