Loved this book - crazy cliffhanger

It's been years since I read this, but I remember it being absolutely thrilling. It has an interesting world, very hate-able villain and insane cliffhanger that made me feel so sorry for people who read it when it came out and didn't have the luxury of just picking up book 2 and carrying on with the story. Great start to a great series.
