Facts and fiction and the eccentricities of James K Baxter are reviewed in the shadow of this author's narration of his own life. It tells of poet Baxter's language of the heart and his many contributions, behaviours, and conversion to a belief in a higher power through Alcoholics Anonymous. It tells of progress but not perfection in his newfound faith in God. Baxter's weary path of hope in helping the down and out drug addicts and misfits of society in establishing a not so successful commune. It tracks his alcoholism, depression and anxiety in overcoming his own addictions and the faith in God himself which he sees as a shadow of his own life. The author himself has walked a similar path and finds in Baxter help in understanding his own inner turmoil, cry for help and letting go the ego of the self-centred world with desires to help explain the inner journey of the spirit for which Baxter and he too craves,. It is but a snippet of duel lives that may well benefit other suffering souls who care to read this little work.
