The simple story of a young man and a young woman reared in two different environments. The young man, Bud Thompson, is a farm boy who lives with his family in the South Carolina Lowcountry much the same as did their ancestors with the land providing for their needs and nourishment. The young woman, Amber Sawyer, lives in the South Carolina upstate where she is the daughter, an only child, of a prosperous couple and whose culturally and socially driven mother has settled on a direct life path for her daughter. Bud meets Amber in college and entertains her with tales of living in the remote Lowcountry where many homes are still without electricity. He invites her to spend a week on the farm when school is dismissed for the summer. She hesitantly accepts the invitation.
