In 1966, a fireball penetrated the evening sky, expelling pieces of itself and colored smoke; pushing Mach 3 above the Hudson River northward. Ray and Ryan Whitelaw watched and were immobilized as the deep space intruder showered them with stardust. After years of search, Ray believes he has found one of the meteor's orphans: a rugby ball-sized projectile, and he begins an astrophysical study of its nature. The brothers are consumed as they try to unravel the power and meaning of this cosmic visitor. Ray starts with some basic equations that grow into an Einstein-like formula in an enclosed pedestrian bridge in Yonkers, N.Y. over the Metro North rail line. The Greystone station becomes a gathering place for partying teens, a 'lovers lane' for cheaters, and neighborhood gangs. All are unconsciously drawn by the space intruder and Ray's growing theorem. On their homemade death row, "The High Five Junkies" look to Ray and his magnetic overpass equation for transmutation and redemption.
