The Green Velvet Journals Make a Tremendously Important Point

Looking through this emerald gem of a book, The Green Velvet Journals, we gain a glimpse of many women's worst fear: a breast cancer diagnosis for ourselves or someone close to us. Whichever could be worse? I read the book in two days, not able to put it down. I effortlessly identified and sympathized with the intimate self-portraits these two women so generously share with their readers. As they record their innermost thoughts and feelings, we see many facets of their emerald green hearts open to God, each other, and themselves. Day by day, each one seperately records her journey and healing process, presenting it for us to compare. I've heard that when we die, not only does our life pass before our eyes, but also we are allowed to see other people's thoughts about us as we revisit each and every event. The Green Velvet Journals afford us an inkling of this kind of experience. As we follow mother and daughter down their shared but distinctly individual paths, we see ourselves through them, our own intimate relationship with our creator, and our relationship to our loved ones. Their heart-wrenching story has the potential to profoundly touch many whose lives are impacted by cancer. My favorite thing about this book is the tremendously important point it makes: whether following alternative or traditional medicine, we can only find true healing by surrendering completely to our creator. Medicine is most effective when combined with spirituality. What a courageous path these two women have chosen.
