A 104-page book, rich with photographs, describing the Great Blue Heron, both in breeding and non-breeding seasons. Specific topics include history, distribution and migration; mate selection, nest building and breeding; raising chicks; fledging of chicks, life beyond the rookery, and a conservation message. Sadly, the island rookery featured in this book was demolished the following year by a tornado which killed all the just-hatching chicks and many of the adults. They had returned to this rookery on the Northern Mississippi River after surviving the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
