The Majesty is old - or at least that's what his daughter and the doctors tell him. His health has declined, and he has suffered the loss of loved ones and friends. The Realm has grown unrecognizable from what he knew in his youth. But he has tried to adjust and lead a quieter life. He has tried to accept the persistence of change.
On the day of a funeral in distant Tree Burning, a delegation arrives with word of the Majesty's son. Beyond the civilized Realm, rumors of violence and anarchy in the estranged prince's name threaten the peace the Majesty and his Council have worked hard to maintain. Worse, the faraway region is poisoned somehow, and few have returned from the mysterious shore of its gray sea unaffected.
No one is forced to dwell in such a place, yet many choose to make it their home. What dark appeal holds its denizens in thrall? Overnight, an unexpected crisis compels the reluctant Majesty to leave the comfort of his castle high on the blue mountain and - with the help of an idealistic young councilor and friends new and old - seek answers as he embarks on a final adventure.
