The Graves Beneath the Road: A Miami-Dade Police Procedural
A storm washed away the road. What it uncovered was never supposed to be found.
After heavy rain tears open a remote stretch of road in Miami-Dade County, a passing dog discovers something protruding from the collapsed shoulder.
A human finger.
By the end of the day, homicide detectives have recovered evidence of at least five women buried beneath the road.
None of them has a name.
Detective Izzy Marchena is assigned to lead an investigation with almost nothing to work with: decomposed remains, deteriorated wrapping, fragments of bone, and sixty feet of reconstructed roadway. But the evidence begins telling a story.
The women were not originally buried there.
Someone dug them up.
Someone wrapped them again.
And someone knew exactly when the county would open that road.
Marchena and veteran detective Dell Prather begin the slow work of turning the dead into names-and names into a case. Medical records. Radiographs. Missing-person reports. Road contracts. Crew sheets. Gate logs. Digital accounts. Subpoenas. Witnesses who remember one detail but forget another.
Piece by piece, five separate disappearances begin pointing in the same direction.
But knowing who may have killed them is not the same as proving it.
And as Marchena closes in, an old missing-person case from her own past threatens to blur the line between evidence and what she desperately wants to believe.
THE GRAVES BENEATH THE ROAD is an authentic, detail-rich Miami-Dade police procedural for readers who want the investigation-not shortcuts-to solve the crime.
If you enjoy homicide teams following evidence wherever it leads, forensic detail, intelligent interrogations, painstaking case-building, and detectives who must prove every step before they can make an arrest, this is your kind of crime novel.
