Bob Cummings, born in Portland, Tennessee in 1922, tells his life story spanning 90 years, beginning in the strawberry fields of Portland. He then moved on to play on the football fields of Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech, interrupted while serving in the U.S. Marines on the battlefields of World War II in the Pacific. He returned to Vanderbilt after the war and earned his engineering degree while at the same time taught mathematics and coached football at Isaac Litton High School. His coaching success led to stints at Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Miami (FL) and the New Orleans Saints. He also had stints as head coach at Hendersonville High School and Beech High School in his home county of Sumner County, Tennessee. After retiring from coaching, he founded a family land surveying business. He raised five children with his late wife of 61 years, Sarah Davis. He and his wife Imogene now divide their time between homes in Memphis and Leiper's Fork, Tennessee.
