The Grapevine: A Lost Highway Thriller

From bestselling authors Alexandra Sokoloff and Craig Robertson, The Grapevine is a thrilling mystery featuring a quirky and relentless female protagonist, perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn and Karin Slaughter.

How far would you go to find your missing child?

Lou Gomersall's going as far as it takes. And there's no turning back.

When her nineteen-year-old daughter Abby disappears, Lou embarks on a reckless road trip in the family RV, scouring the highways and back roads of California. Through desert and mountains, into the woods, and to the ocean's edge.

A year later, the police don't believe Lou's theory that four other missing young women have been taken by the same elusive predator. So, when another college sophomore vanishes, Lou jumps on the fresh trail, enlisting millennial #vanlifers, Gen Z entrepreneurs, boomer RVers, homeless sages, truck stop prostitutes, and everyone in between in her do-or-die mission to rescue Abby ...

Or kill the man who took her.

A murder-mystery this NON murder mystery fan LOVED!!

As my headline says, murder mysteries isn't my favorite genre. I find that too often you can easily figure out "who dunnit" way too early in the book, and I find myself then just skimming to the end to see I was correct. Or, what I REALLY hate, is when the book ends with the villain holding the main character somewhere, and the villain goes into some long soliloquy about why they did it, how they did it, etc. Essentially a confession before the knock off the main character. I've been so exasperated by this, I mean, is this what all the killers do?!? Seems illogical, but somehow the authors need to tie the ends together. I will not give spoilers here. I will only say that these authors weave a fiction that seems reality based, by which I mean, they show the thought processes and deductions the MC makes, which are sometimes wrong or sends her on dead ends. Have you ever heard in real-life cases how there is "new evidence"? I've thought, where did new evidence come from, and this shows how a new thought or bit of evidence can open a whole new investigation. So if I don't like murder mysteries, why in the world did I buy this book? I am an aspiring author myself, and I bought this book because I follow the writing advice of Sokoloff. I thought, what the heck, I'll pick up a copy. I'm delighted that I did. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, as she introduces a few characters that intrigued me. I'm sure we'll hear their stories. BTW, if you follow "van life" or have your own RV, you will love this book. If you know someone that fits those categories, or is a murder-mystery fan, this would make a great gift. ENJOY!
