Envy is a deadly poison. Faith is the antidote. Things couldn't be better for Rue Kessler. He just married the mother of his eight-year-old son, Montana, and finally has the family he's always dreamed of. Not only that, his father-in-law hired him to be the new construction supervisor on a big condo project. He's been sober for eighteen months. He's finally plugged in at church. And he's building his wife Ivy the house she's always dreamed of. Life is good. Then with no warning, Rue and his wife and son become the target of someone's cruel and frightening attacks. What reason would anyone have to dash their hopes and dreams? What will it take to stop it? What defense is there against an enemy he can't see? While Rue's head is still reeling, a man on his work crew is found half dead in Tanner Canyon. Are the attacks related? Is someone trying to put a stop to the condo project? Or is something more sinister afoot-something that will take all the faith he's got to confront?

Christian romance...

Christian romance... The Grand Scheme is the third book in the "Phantom Hollow" series. Rue Kessler worked hard to get his life together. The recovering alcoholic has been sober for a year and a half. He is happily married with one child. Things are going well for the Kessler family. He is working for his father-in-law, building a new condo. Suddenly, the Kessler are the brunt of someone's anger. One of the men working with Kessler is found dead. Who or what is out to destroy Rue Kessler's life? Kathy Herman has a talent for combining drama, action, thrill, romance, and Christian values all in one plot. Her characters are interesting and believable. She allows her characters to have very human flaws. Rue struggles with anger and forgiveness. The message of this story is one I will never forget. None of us deserves to be forgiven. We cannot earn forgiveness. Forgiveness must be freely offered with no strings attached.

This whole series has been great reading. It was hard to wait until the next book came out. Kathy Herman does a great job holding your attention and writing a very detailed and entertaining story that's wrapped in reality. The characters struggle with the why's of life and how to handle their situations in a Christian manner. I've read nearly all of Kathy's books and have enjoyed and learned from each one. Thanks, Kathy.
Great!

Danger and Forgiveness
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
Kathy Herman has again created a rapidly twisting mystery, interwoven with the profound issues of forgiveness and mercy. In the third book of the Phantom Hollow Series, Ivy and Rue Kessler return from their honeymoon glowing with plans for their future. Their future, however, appears to be going up in smoke after several arson incidents appear to target Ivy's parents, the Kessler's and the family business. Are the culprits the environmental protesters or someone with a grudge against Ivy and her family? When a family member is injured, Rue is forced to come to terms with his anger and realizes that forgiveness is never deserved or earned. As in her earlier books, Kathy Herman excels in creating imperfect and very human characters who wrestle with living out their Christian walk in biblically consistent ways. In this book, the characters explore the meaning of forgiveness and how to actually forgive what seems unforgivable.
