The Gossip

Owusu Kwakwa, the protagonist in the novel, is not an honest man. He is a Politician and thrives on Gossip, lies, and deceit to achieve his ends. He has no iota of sympathy in all those he comes in contact with when it comes to deals that bring socio-economic and political benefits. Owusu Kwakwa's habitual gossip and greed prompt him to organize a successful coup d' tat to overthrow the legitimate king in the village of Bantsiman. He attempts another coup d' tat on the installed new king he supports, but fails this time and had to escape into the forest for fear of being executed by the king. The first and legitimate king who was overthrown by Owusu Kwakwa returns from exile with the help of his genuine supporters. They defeated the illegitimate king and reinstate the rightful king on the throne. Owusu Kwakwa was declared a wanted man and had to become a fugitive and eventually had to flee into exile.
