The Gospels: Matthew, Mark & Luke (Part 3)

The four Gospels tell the story of Jesus from a slightly different perspective. There exist many different gospels, but only four of them are considered canonical (officially accepted as authoritative by the Church) and included in the Christian Bible. These are the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They are the first four books of the New Testament. The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke are referred to collectively as the Synoptic Gospels (as in "single eye" or "single vision"). They are called this because they all contain accounts of many of the same events from Jesus' life, sometimes using the same or remarkably similar words. In this commentary series, the Gospels are presented in four separate volumes. The first three volumes (of which this is the second) contain the common depiction of the events of the life of Jesus of Nazareth as they are presented in the three Synoptic Gospels. Common passages from the three Gospel accounts are presented together to highlight the similarities and consistencies among the three narratives. The fourth volume includes passages that are unique to the Gospel of John.
