1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

১ ১ আদিতে বাক্য ছিলেন, বাক্য ঈশ্বরের সহিত ছিলেন, এবং বাক্য ঈশ্বর ছিলেন।

1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

১ ২ ঈশ্বরের ক্ষেত্রেও আদিতে একই অবস্থা ছিল।

1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

১ ৩ সকলই তাঁর দ্বারা সৃষ্ট হয়েছিল; আর যা কিছু সৃষ্ট হয়েছিল তার কোন কিছুই তাঁকে ছাড়া সৃষ্ট হয়নি।

1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

১ ৪ তাঁর মধ্যে জীবন ছিল; এবং সেই জীবন মানুষের আলো ছিল।

1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

১ ৫ সেই আলো অন্ধকারে জ্বলে; আর অন্ধকার তা বুঝতে পারেনি।

1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

১ ৬ ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে একজন লোক প্রেরিত হয়েছিলেন, তাঁর নাম ছিল যোহন।

1:7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

১ ৭ তিনি সাক্ষীর জন্য, অর্থাৎ আলোর বিষয়ে সাক্ষ্য দেওয়ার জন্য এসেছিলেন, যাতে তাঁর মাধ্যমে সকল মানুষ বিশ্বাস করতে পারে।

1:8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

১ ৮ তিনি সেই আলো ছিলেন না, কিন্তু সেই আলোর সাক্ষ্য দেওয়ার জন্য তাঁকে পাঠানো হয়েছিল।
