Book Overview

As Christians, we are called to follow Jesus in every area of our lives, including our role as citizens. (Matt. 28:16-20; Phil 1:27) But how exactly are we supposed to do that now in an increasingly polarized and plural society? How can we engage in public life without jeopardizing the Gospel? Here's how. In The Good Citizen, Josh Hershberger reviews Biblical principles and the example of Christian citizens across continents and ages. Then, he applies those principles and examples to citizenship in the United States and sets out a practical, four-step plan for Christian citizens in an increasingly divided America. This book includes a Bible study guide for small group or classroom use. Most American Christians want to see the American republic strengthened and renewed for the next generation. But that will not come through novel political strategies. Rather, it will come by prayer and by engaging government in God's way. Let's get to work. Josh Hershberger is an attorney, minister and speaker. He leads The Good Citizen Project, a national ministry dedicated to equipping Christians to be good citizens, and The Church Ambassador Network, an Indiana-specific ministry dedicated to building relationships between the ministers of God and the ministers of government (Rom. 13) with the goal of ministering to those officials and partnering with the for the common good. Josh is licensed to practice law in three states (IN, KY & TN), the United States Supreme Court, and other federal courts. He also assists Christian ministries throughout much of the United States, serves as a teaching pastor at his church in southeast Indiana, and podcasts at goodcitizen.us.
