The system is rigged. Ted Ward has the password.
After years of keeping his head down at Sahara, Ted Ward finally gets something better than a promotion: access to the CEO's secrets. Including how the corporate giant decides which writers and musicians become stars-and which stay invisible.
With a brilliant programmer and a few suitably disgruntled colleagues, Ted starts the Gold Club. A tweak to the rankings. Some creative accounting. Suddenly, struggling artists are climbing the charts, and the people doing the actual work are getting a cut.
Ted can almost call it a public service.
But success has a way of attracting management.
The CEO is delighted to take credit for a program he knows nothing about. He'd be even happier to get his hands on the people running it. His security chief has some ideas about how to arrange that.
Meanwhile, Ted's accomplices are discovering ambitions of their own. And Ted, who once wanted nothing more than to get through the workday, is getting dangerously comfortable deciding who deserves a break.
Getting away with it would be considerably easier if everyone involved could stop trying to get ahead.
The Gold Club is a darkly comic corporate techno-caper about manufactured success, compromised idealists, and what happens when the office malcontents finally get access to the controls.
