Charming and slightly titallating

Well-written novel about a middle-aged male's relationship with his fourteen year old goddaughter. The relationship develops from a kind of fond uncle - niece relationship to a full-fledged affair which progesses to fulfillment and then gradually fades away - although the emotional attachment between the two remains even after the physical relationship has ended. Nothing explicit, although there's a fair amount of implied activity, just a rather charming and slightly titallating novel that's a little dated but a good read for all that. Out of print for years now but the occasional second-hand copy pops up. If you like this kind of thing, pick it up but don't expect anything explicit - it's not that kind of book.
