A MUST BUY!

I really did not think that this book would "ignite a light in me" like another reader said. However, it definitely has. I have recommended this book to every woman I know! It definitely is a must buy and you will not regret spending a dollar on it. There is a lot of advice that will be useful to you regardless of where you are in your career. They should give this book to every woman who enters university, as the earlier you read it, the more your career will benefit from it.

The best of the bunch

Over the past few weeks I've read quite a few of the "how to be a successful female business executive while retaining femininity, etc etc". The Go-Getter Girl's Guide has pretty much hit the nail on the head in terms of the subjects touched upon and in its realism about the lives we lead. There are examples throughout the book of women who are GGG's (Go Getter Girls), some famous and some simply successful. There are also little workbook type sections for you to get your GGG self inspired and motivated. Frankly I am probably older than the target audience of this book but I learnt a few things and found it a fun, informative and quick read. The only thing I would change is the size and front design of the book; it's a 7.5" x 9" paperback that would look more elegant perhaps slightly narrower. The front cover may appeal to younger women but the content is appealing to all ages of women and so it would be nice to have the cover match that in elegance too. Debra Shigley is an excellent writer, has her feet firmly on the ground and works darn hard (passing her law degree while working full time as a magazine editor). Privelage has not been given to her and she doesn't have a famous name or product, she is simply a Go Getter Girl!

An easy and informative read

I was shopping for a strapless bra today and found myself wishing I had the GGG Guide in my bag. Why? Because the GGG Guide is not just about how to get ahead in your career. It provides specific and practical tools about a variety of topics, ultimately helping you recognize your worth and feel good in whatever professional situation you may find yourself in. The GGG Guide helped me take the steps necessary to connect with a mentor I have wanted to speak with for quite some time. The chapter on negotiating prepared me to ask for a raise in my evaluation. The section on allies and advocates made me more aware of my attitude and style of communication with co-workers. In addition to all this, the Guide is a colorful and quick read; an inviting self-help book you will actually look forward to opening. As a young woman, I feel more confident knowing I have this Guide nearby to consult when picking out a suit, deciding to move on from a job, or dealing with potential conflicts with co-workers. The GGG Guide is an important resource for young people in today's work world. Purchasing this book is a very good idea.

Essential Guide for Work and Life

The Go-Getter Girl's Guide is the book that I wish I'd had in college and law school! Even though everyone seems to begin from the same starting line when you go from school to a career, at some point you turn around and notice that some women are far ahead of others in the race. This book gets at what those women have done -- in fields as diverse as law, finance, entertainment and retail -- to get to the front of the pack, and shares those tips with the rest of us. The Guide explains the finer points of finding mentors, networking and navigating office politics -- and Shigley helpfully demystifies these skills, along with all of the other aspects of success that seems to come so "naturally" to some people! Shigley even gets to the nitty-gritty of fitting workouts and grooming into busy schedules. So many women get so absorbed in their work lives that they forget about taking care of themselves -- this guide helps women to avoid falling into that trap, with practical tips on how to prioritize looking good with all of one's other commitments. I would definitely recommend this book to women in their 20s and 30s, and just purchased a copy for a recent college grad in my family!

Witty pageturner

Go-Getter girls is a refreshing guide to getting ahead in all aspects of a woman's life. Shigley's guide is far from fluff - instead she gives stories from real women who have been there, done that and more importantly, she gives her own take - which is sassy, pointed and has real guts. This is a smart girl's guide to looking, feeling and working better. I have already suggested it to every woman I know and am using Debra's tips in my own life.
