John Gayner came from England in 1866 with his family and settled in Salem New Jersey. Having apprenticed as a glass blower he started his own Glass factory. Joseph Godwin is the great-grandson of John Gayner and he too started working as a glass blower at the age of fourteen. The gainer-Godwin clan ran the glass factory and were quite affluent in the New jersey area. This is the story of a historically well-known glass factory intertwined with the story of a young man trying to find his independence from his family and his voice.
