Sonja crept slowly out of bed, not wanting to disturb her grandson, whom she thought was sound asleep in the bedroom across from hers. She kicked off the blankets that had kept her warm throughout the night. Dragging her tired body into the luxury, custom bathroom to do her daily ritual of washing her face, applying anti-aging moisturizer and brushing her teeth, She gaped at her reflection in the mirror above the dual sinks; discovering that very morning she didn't like who she had become. What happened to the confident woman that she once was? It was unknown to her when the confident woman took a backseat and allowed the image in the mirror to take control of her.
The past twenty-nine years of being stuck in transition had taken a toll on her youthful skin. Sonja was starting to look her age. No one could've guessed her age before. Her amber, perfect skin tone was starting to age and sag. Crow's feet were appearing around her ebony eyes. She became disgusted with her look; throwing the facial cloth on the sink with great disappointment.
Today wasn't like any other day. Her reflection in the mirror pained her. She saw tiredness and defeat. Her eyes contained dark circles of misery. Heavy bags lied underneath. She let out a deep sigh of regret; hoping to change the appearance of the image staring back at her. What's the use? She couldn't turn back the hands of time. What becomes of the broken-hearted? She pondered in her heart.
