This is a must read!

I had the privilege of reading The Gift and meeting the author at a book club meeting. This book is a must read for those in the African America community who want to read a book that is not solely build around sex and violence with no substance. The story line is very inspiring and takes you back to your roots. Even though the work is a sci-fi piece it is based on scenarios that occur in the African American family and our communities. I found myself visualizing the characters and the scenes in my head. I could hear and see the situations as if I were having an out of body experience. It is the best book I have read in a long time. I am a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and I was tickled blue and gold when I saw the author mentioned my illustrious sorority in his work. While this book has an African American based story line, it is a great read for anyone who wants a look into honesty and truth in our world without it being forced down your throat. It is an easy read and provokes thought and has some ah ha moments. Great Job D. Lee Hatchett. I AM WAITING IN THE NEXT BOOK! Hurry Up!

Matthew, Jo'sha, Wade and Chance are all suitemates at Georgia Central University in Atlanta who come from very different socioeconomic backgrounds. Two are the upper crust of the South while the others are poor and struggling to make it. In spite of that, they manage to become fast friends, which is a good thing because some of the football players, large and threatening, seem to have it in for them. They attempt to make their stay on campus as uncomfortable as they can. The four frequently come to each other's rescue. To add to the stress, the bodies of young men are being found in and around the city of Atlanta, causing much concern for the four friends. As an orientation class project, they research the university's history and find out this is not the first time the bodies of young men have been found near the campus. One hundred years ago, four students were found in the woods near the campus. The need to know who is doing the killing spur them to further investigation. While searching old records, they come across four ankhs. Without thinking, they put the ankhs on, only to discover the emblems have amazing powers: to heal and/or to hurt. Have they run across a blessing or a curse? THE GIFT by D. Lee Hatchett is a fascinating story of ancient religion, strange happenings and even stranger college professors. All the characters and their respective backgrounds were well developed. It is a novel that leaves you hankering for the next book.
