Set in a world that is dominated by a vast desert, two friends are caught in the middle of a civil war. She's a warrior. He's a musician. When they discover that the crux of the war is a prophesied newborn baby that one side will do anything to destroy, they become the only people capable of saving the child's life--all that stands in their way is an active volcano, a barbarian army, and a cunning assassin with motives of his own.
The Ghosts of Rathalla is the first book I have read by Matthew K Perkins. I thought it was a decent book to read. At around two hundred pages, it was easy to finish in one sitting. This quick story involves fast paced action, adventure, danger, and suspense. I liked getting to know the main characters. It was interesting taking this journey with them and seeing in their eyes what it was like to continue through the desert setting. I, also, saw the struggles they experienced and believe that many other readers would find relatable and find a way to connect with them. The plot of the book was full of mystique and intrigue. There was a lot of going from past to present that was confusing at times. I found myself having to re read those parts to get a better grasp as to what is going on. Overall, I thought it was a good tale to spend a few hours with.
I am giving The Ghosts of Rathalla three and a half stars. I recommend it for readers and fans of adult epic fantasy fiction. I believe it is worth giving it a try. I would be interested in reading more books from the author, Matthew K Perkins in the future.
I received a paperback copy of Matthew K Perkins' The Ghosts of Rathalla from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
