The Ghosts of Grand Detour

Alexandra Markum reluctantly possesses a true gift. Hailed as a seer of the Cherokee race, she often finds herself traveling to crime scenes to help locate missing persons. Struggling to accept the reality of her metaphysical capabilities, Alex places herself in a self-imposed exile. She and her friends believe they will find serenity in the small, northwestern-Illinois town of Grand Detour, where they can live out their lives in the uncomplicated atmosphere of a refurbished, equestrian retreat.

What Alex finds instead is a nightmare. The history of the Rock River area contains bloody legends of misfortunes that have kept Grand Detour in the grasp of an ancient, evil entity. At first, a few odd things happen, and Alex takes little notice, but ethereal intensities grow, and she finds herself in the middle of missing persons cases, daily ghostly encounters, and an evil that reaches out to play a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with her. To complicate matters, she must also contend with an attraction to a sheriff who stubbornly refuses to believe in the unknown--until it proves almost too late for everyone, and Alex finds herself drawn into a trap from which she fears she cannot escape.

A real barn burner!

This is a HORROR novel, but fun. The story uses humor like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel or the X-files in the face of adversity. If you love horses it's a fun ride. Alexandra Markum is a great character and I love the conflict between her and the sheriff. I can't wait for the sequel! If you love the metaphysical, you'll enjoy this book. If you don't understand the metaphysical this will go right over your head. I understand that the author is donating a portion of her proceeds to a horse rescue in Illinois. Bravo!

Highly recommend this as a new horror, supernatural thriller series!

Wow. Really creepy! Native American mythology & classic horror meet Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. Packed full of metaphysical meanings. If you like horror and you love horses, you'll love this exciting ride through the supernatural.

Exteremly good novel. By Jessie Lewis, age eleven

A marvelous novel, moves with joyous energy, clearly written. Everything about the book feels real, these are real people and they are still larger than life. A great horror novel with a good scare!!

WONDERFUL DEBUT MYSTERY SERIES

Rebecca Kohles has combined her passion for mystery and suspense with her love of horses and has brillantly constructed an extremely satisfying first novel. The prose is perfection in 212 pages, there is not a word that doesn't belong exactly where it is placed. Alexandra Markum is a fresh and original character. The best thing since Miss Marple. The Ghosts of Grand Detour is a read for any day of the week. It is pure pleasure and the only disappointing part is finishing the novel and wanting more.

ghosts of grand detour entertaining read
