Will an ancient legend weave a young girl's destiny? The herald of Emperor Quetzalcoatl has announced a contest, asking all the talented weavers throughout the kingdom to compete in creating the most beautiful tapestry for the royal palace and claim the prize of becoming the royal weaver. In a remote mountain village lives Grandmother Atl, a very talented weaver, and her orphaned granddaughter, Nemimati. Nemimati wants nothing more than to help her grandmother live a better life, so she convinces her to enter the contest. To weave a tapestry fit for royalty, Grandmother Atl asks the Goddess Tonantzin "the Spinner of the Threads of Fortune" for inspiration. Nemimati is sent to gather the nearly out of season magical beans from which a luminous golden dye can be made. However, it is only when the Goddess Tonantzin's mysterious Ghost Tree of legend appears that her efforts meet with success.
