Book Overview

"The Geography of Witchcraft" is a comprehensive and scholarly exploration of the history and manifestation of witchcraft across various nations and eras. Written by the prolific occultist and scholar Montague Summers, this work serves as an essential companion to his broader historical studies, focusing on the specific regional developments of the dark arts and their subsequent persecution.

The volume meticulously examines the practice of witchcraft in classical civilizations such as Greece and Rome, before tracing its evolution through Western Europe, including detailed accounts of events in England, Scotland, France, and Italy. Summers also extends his analysis to the New World, providing insights into the infamous trials and beliefs of New England. Each chapter delves into the unique cultural, religious, and legal responses to sorcery, drawing upon historical records, trial transcripts, and contemporary accounts.

Distinguished by its depth of research and the author's intense perspective on the supernatural, "The Geography of Witchcraft" remains a significant resource for students of the occult, social history, and the history of religion. It offers a vivid portrait of a world gripped by the fear of the preternatural, documenting the complex interplay between folk belief, theology, and the law across the centuries.

Great Historical Perspective on the Ascent of Witchcraft as Understood by the Church.

In this work the author gives detailed evidence for the ascent of Witchcraft set out in his previous volume The History of Witchcraft and Demonology. The epidemic that occurred is treated as it appeared in various countries. Comprehensive chapters deal with Greece, Rome, England, Scotland, New England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. An excellent resource for understanding how witch mania spread through Europe as it did.
