But when a woman by the name of Tess Shepherd shows up in her office, asking to have Rachel represent her in a custody battle, she has no choice but to turn the case down. She's a corporate attorney, not a family one, and although Tess's story is one of heartbreak-a forced sexual encounter resulting in the birth of twin boys-Rachel doesn't feel that she can properly help her. Not to mention that the alleged father is Logan McCain, heir to the great New Orleans McCain fortune, and that Tess is a dancer from The Fruits of Passion men's club. Rachel provides Tess with the name of a reputable family lawyer who can represent her against Logan , who has come to gain custody of five-year-old twins Danny and Davy-boys that he claims are rightfully his. Tess leaves Rachel's office reluctantly, recommendation in hand, but never has the chance to contact the other lawyer. Only twenty-four hours later, the dancer is found murdered in the French Quarter, brutally beaten. Rachel is now obsessed with finding Tess's killer, and her prime suspect is Logan McCain, the man who Tess says took unfair advantage of her after her high-school graduation ceremony and fathered her sons. But there's more to Logan than meets the eye, and when he urges Rachel to turn her investigation in the direction of The Fruits of Passion, she comes face to face with lies, deception, and cover-ups. As her feelings for Logan head towards romance, and she realizes that Logan was not the man who raped Tess Shepherd and fathered her sons, she's stopped cold when she realizes why exactly Logan showed up on Tess's doorstep, seeking custody of Danny and Davy. With lies shadowing their blooming romance, can Rachel still trust Logan enough to keep her safe from an enemy that she doesn't know? With young Danny and Davy missing, and more dancers employed by The Fruits of Passion ending up beaten and mishandled, everyone seems to be wanting to place Logan in the hot seat. Although Rachel is sure he's not Tess's murderer, she'll have to set her feelings aside for the time being to catch a cold-hearted murderer-before it's too late. THE GENTLEMAN'S CLUB is an engaging romantic suspense story with an interesting plot that, although there are a few not-so-surprising surprises scattered throughout, is thoroughly enjoyable. Ms. Wayne has penned another winner, one you won't want to overlook.

Entertaining Romantic Suspense

Tess Sheppard shows up unannounced and insists on seeing attorney Rachel Powers. A dancer at the Fruits of Passion Gentleman's Club, Tess insists that New Orleans businessman Logan McCain is the father of her twin sons. Tess wants Rachel to help her fight Logan and prevent him from getting custody. Rachel quickly informs her that as a corporate lawyer she doesn't handle custody cases, then gives her the name of a good family law attorney. But when Rachel discovers the next day that Tess has been murdered and her sons are missing, she finds herself involved in a case where blackmail, murder, and sex are intertwined. Rachel also finds herself drawn to Logan McCain. The more time Rachel spends with him, the more she comes to realize that the Logan that Tess described, and the Logan that she knows, can't be the same. Logan and Rachel begin to fall in love. However, someone at The Fruits of Passion wants Tess's secrets to go to the grave with her. Can Rachel and Logan find the boys before their unknown enemy decides that they are getting too close to the truth? The Gentleman's Club was a very entertaining romantic suspense. Logan and Rachel are both likable characters and the mystery surrounding what happened in the past with Tess and Logan, along with the secrets involving Tess's death, make for an enthralling read. Readers who enjoy romantic suspense won't be disappointed by The Gentleman's Club. Melissa Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

fine romantic suspense

In New Orleans, the lowest attorney on the food chain at the corporate law firm of Williams, Williams and Castle, Rachel Powers prepares to assist a client with the IRS when a battered woman insists on seeing her. Tess Shepherd explains a friend sent her to Rachel. Five years ago Tess says she met wealthy Logan McCain following her high school graduation celebration; he forced himself on her and she gave birth nine months later to twins Danny and Davy. She never saw him again until recently when he demanded the boys. Rachel does not practice family law so she recommends where Tess can get an attorney, but the woman walks out, not interested in anyone else. Not long afterward Tess is murdered and her twins are missing. Although she knows she gave the right advice, Rachel feels guilt and concern for the boys. She begins making inquiries concentrating on insuring the safety of the children. When she gets to know Logan, she concludes he is no killer and would never force himself on a woman, but she also recognizes the rose colored glasses of love. Romantic suspense readers will enjoy this strong tale due to the transition of the lead couple especially Rachel who slowly and believably goes from suspicious to a woman in love who trusts her partner. The story line is action-packed with an interesting twist albeit used too often in literature and movies. Still the cast is fine; the cause is heroic; and the escapades delightfully written so that sub-genre fans will want to follow the exploits of Rachel and Logan as they risk their lives to rescue the twin boys.
