The Gateway to Miami, Oklahoma: Forever in Our Hearts

Ron Enderland, of 826 K NW, was born at Miami Baptist Hospital in August 1959. He spent his first eight years in Miami and the rest of his life missing the place. Given an amazing education at Mrs. Adams' kindergarten over on NW H, he entered first grade already able to read well. So Mrs. Cottam allowed him to draw quietly in Nichols Elementary first grade class during the Dick and Jane sessions. And draw he did, developing a love for art that stuck with him from then on. He was also fortunate to receive a college-level education in high school from renowned artist Wanda Roe. His art hangs all over the US and can also be found in Europe. Nowadays, historical Miami is one of his favorite subjects, having created over 40 drawings of the place so far. You can find his art online at http: //www.enderland.com

Bobby "Hop" Poole grew up at 412 A Street SE in Miami. From an early age, he was influenced by his brothers who were musicians and in bands. He loved music, but was fascinated by the light shows produced by some of the biggest bands around which was synchronized to music. This interest led Eagle Picher to seek Bobby out in order to help them with research and development into an automatic synchronization project. After that, Bobby produced light shows for local bands that are legendary in music circles. That fascination with color and the unique imaging has now taken Bobby into the world of photographic artistry, which he demonstrates in this book with images of historic Miami building and "around town".

Debbie Smith East grew up at 1816 B NE in Miami, Oklahoma and attended Washington School. In the first grade, she learned to read under the stern tutelage of Mrs. Hull which began a lifelong love affair with books. In the third grade, Mrs. Zebert emphasized history which led to her love of museums. Soon, that evolved into a passion for old buildings and architecture which brings us to today and this book of our hometown buildings and their history.

Conceived during a meeting at our favorite Miami coffee shop, Chapters, Ron Bobby and myself hope you enjoy this book which combines all our passions into one tidy package.

The authors would like to thank Jordan Boyd, director of the Dobson for his assistance in locating the historic photographs. His help was invaluable.
