What books have you written?

I don't need to bother writing a long review. This book as well as the entire series is fantastic. To all the haters who gave it one or 2 stars-- WHAT BOOKS HAVE YOU WRITTEN? Please let me know so I can read them since you all seem to know everything there is to writing fantasy. I read well over 100 fantasy books a year most of which are 'doorstoppers'. I've read everyone. I READ everyone. Maybe this book as well as the rest of the series has not broken huge ground-- but it is extremely entertaining, geat world building, very gritty and dark as well as humorous, vividly descriptive. You know this author has PASSION for the story by the way he writes. Aaahh I've said enough... To all the haters out there go back to reading your Waste of Time, Women of Time, and Wheel of Grime series

Great book, better than the first

Man, this is a good story. But before I get to the substance, for all those people complaining about typos, etc, in the first book, get a grip. In one of the reviews to the first book, the reviewer complains about typos and grammar. Ironically, in that very same review I found typos and a score of passive language that would fell even the most hardened English teacher. Enough, get over it--blame the editor, don't blame the writer.This book has a fantastic story to tell. Missing, and thankfully so, is the overpowered protaganist. Yeah, he's the Chosen One, but thus far he hasn't got a clue as to how to use his abilities. Sure we know what's going to happen, but Newcombe's vehicle is far better than the plotting by the numbers that has become so typical in fantasy today. As fast pace as the first book was, this book is even faster, and sure doesn't fall in the "middle book rut" we so commonly see. Indeed, like Martin's books, each installment gets better and better. Newcombe also does a great job of developing the characters, even with the fast pace. Tristan is certainly the impulsive hothead everyone thinks he is, but there is a reason for it. Frankly, the most interesting character in the book is the blood stalker Rangor, who with 300 years of vengence on his mind, is an intriguing character. Everything you hoped would be clarified from the first book is, with still more questions that will be answered in the 3rd book. Great book and for those who complain that Ocean's don't contain "brackish water"--who cares, it's a made up story with made up people, in a made up land, with made up magic. Give the author a break and just enjoy the book for what is, namely, a fresh take on the plot by the numbers approach to fantasy that we have all grown tired of.Goodkind's books by the way, don't hold a torch to these two.

The Suspense is Addictive

With his sequel to the Fifth Sorceress, there is only one disappointment for me...that is that the suspense is a killer and I can't read these books fast enough. The Gates of Dawn is suspensful and action packed but don't worry, the characters from the first novel are even further developed and the new characters including some new women heroines are a great addition. The author continues to paint an exciting adventure that you just can't help taking sides. I've chosen my side and I just can't wait for the next volume to see how it all comes out. If you enjoyed the Lord of the Rings, you will love this series. I can't put it down.

A great book in a great series

Robert Newcomb debuted with The Fifth Sorceress last year. One year later he came out with another hit book, The Gates of Dawn.This book does everything TFS did and better. The story is well paced, plenty of action and great characters.I read some reviews of TFS, and a few people complained about sexism and the brutality. In my opinion, they weren't apparant in either book. Mr. Newcomb is showing us a different perspective, and the violence portrayed in the books are realistic to the story.A few surprising twists come into play, like who the "master" is, and the identity of Celeste, the girl that Tristin meets.Highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a great fantasy book
