Steubenville history teacher Maureen Albrecht is all too aware of her hometown's past reputation as "Little Chicago" for the number of crimes once committed there. After a lifetime of living with her own father's unsolved murder, Maureen exhumes clues to solving the 60-year-old cold case. As the search deepens, Maureen discovers her grandfather, father, and cousin were all jewel thieves-with garnets as their specialty.
Following a European vacation, Maureen learns a companion from the trip has been murdered near Steubenville. Maureen partners with a local Steubenville detective and begins a multi-state search for the killer. During the town's annual Dean Martin Festival, Maureen unearths clues that lead to more jewels and the murderer.
