Everything you need to know, all in one spot

"For those who are about to plant...," this has to be one of the most comprehensive books around. Its 400-plus pages are logically divided into seven chapters (Perennials, Roses, Annuals, Bulbs, Shrubs, Cacti, and Climbers) plus an index and a climate-zone map. Each chapter begins with an overview of that particular type of plant (including "What Can Go Wrong"), then goes on to an A-to-Z listing of individual species, with each entry including one to three color photos, a quick look at features (colors, size, what makes it popular), the conditions in which it best thrives, how to grow it, when it will bloom, and care. Particularly useful is the organization of the book: if you just like roses, or if you don't want to mess around with seeds every year, you can easily find growables that will suit your style.
