It was a massive vessel, especially compared to the dories and skipjacks that were usually tied up to the wharf. It had slipped into port under a full moon and a higher than normal tide for this time of year. Any other time, her draft wouldn't have let her over the shoals that clogged the little harbor. Dark gray, with reefed tanbark sails, she was ghostly in appearance and just as spectral in her approach. She had come in with no lights and no one on deck. Slicing her way through the mist rising from the water, she docked with quiet precision. Unfamiliar to port, she was shrouded in mystery as to its occupants and cargo. Rumors and whispers flooded the town in a matter of hours. This was no simple fishing boat. Daniel turned to Randall and Seth. "You said you wanted to get a closer look?" There was a subtle nod of agreement and under the cover of darkness, the three boys made their way toward the ship. "I see a hatch. Let's go below and see what they're carrying."
